Senate: PDP-52, ACN-13, ANPP-7, CPC-6, LP-3, APGA-1, DPP-1

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has won 52 out of the 83 senatorial seats so far declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Results from the election also show that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has 13 seats, the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) 7 seats, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) 6 seats, the Labour Party (LP) 3 while the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) and the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) got 1 seat each. 

The PDP has lost overwhelming majority in the Senate since 2007 and is now struggling to get to 64 seats which is two-third majority needed to ratify critical issues in the lawmaking process.

Some of the strong PDP senators that were defeated include, the Senate Whip Mahmud Kanti Bello (PDP, Katsina North), Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Chairman Committee on Defence and Army, Senator Ibrahim Ida and the Chairman Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

For the House of Representatives out of a total 179 seats declared, the PDP has 87 seats, ACN 33, CPC 30 and the ANPP 14. (Daily Trust)
