THE godfather of politics in Kwara State, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, on Saturday endorsed Senator Gbemisola Saraki as Kwara State governorship candidate for the 2011 governorship election in the state.
The epic event, which took place at the Mandate Campaign House at Olorunsogo, Ilorin, witnessed the presence of the bigwigs in Kwara politics
Dr. Saraki, who said the people’s wish must be followed, noted that calls by the people that Gbemi should be the next governor made him to endorse her, adding that the incumbent governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki, did not dissappoint the people of the state so Senator Gbemisola Saraki will not dissappoint them also if elected as the next governor of the state.
He appealed to the people of Kwara State to give Gbemisola the maximum support so that she can win the election.
Dr. Saraki noted that he was awear that the Minister of Sport, Honourable Bio Ibrahim, had bought form adding that he will get to nowhere.
He promised that his love for the people of Kwara will not stop as he thanked them for staying with him over the years.
Meanwhile, following the endorsement on Saturday, the PDP in Kwara State has said that the endorsement is not accepted by the party.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the endorsement of Senator Saraki as the governorship candidate, the publicity secretary of the party in the state, Alhaji Isiaka Danmairomo, said the Kwara State Executive Council and prominent chieftain of the PDP were all conspicuously absent at the venue.
He said that no notable PDP member was present at the ceremony.
According to him, the party was not aware that any candidate had been so endorsed as the party guidelines were very clear on the emergence, adding that no part of the guidelines empowers any individual or group of people except the party to conduct the primaries that will produce standard bearers.
