A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on  Thursday,  held that General Adetunji Olurin is the lawful  governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun  State. However, his opponent and factional governorship candidate, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, filed an appeal against the judgment also on Thursday.

Justice Abdul Kafarati, in his judgment in a suit filed by Olurin,  seeking non–recognition of the Joju Fadairo-led executive council of the party in the state, further held that the council was legally dissolved by the national leadership of the PDP and, therefore, could not be in the position to conduct a valid primary election.

The council had conducted primary elections that produced candidate for elective positions in the state who are believed to be loyalists of the outgoing governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel.

A parallel primary election conducted in the state by a faction believed to be loyal to former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, had produced Olurin as the governorship candidate among other candidates like Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello.
