Chairman, Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ekpo Okon, has warned former minister of communications, Alhaji Abubakir Rimi, over utterances that are likely to worsen the country's tense political atmosphere.

Okon said this in reaction to Rimi's  statements  that the North does not recognise Goodluck Jonathan as the Acting President of Nigeria.“I consider Rimi’s statement as very irresponsible," Okon said, adding that the kind of arrogance he displayed is not good for the country.

“If Rimi is a leader and speaking for the North, then the North must have a rethink if we must remain one country."Okon noted that Jonathan is not representing a region but one who has been called to duty to serve the nation as acting president.

“But if any group within the country thinks they can undermine his authority, then it is time for those of us who come from the South to stand up and ensure Jonathan performs his constitutional authority.”

He said Rimi won only one election in his life and may never win another one and queried Rimi’s intentions in questioning the wisdom of the National Assembly in handing over the reins of power to Jonathan under the circumstances facing the nation.
