Lagos is set to be the cleanest city in Africa as Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) would soon be sending some of the city 's sweepers to the United Kingdom (UK) for training.

While speaking at a workshop for sweepers tagged, 'Healthy habits - keys to a sustainable clean environment' held at Blue Roof, LTV8 Ground, Ikeja, Lagos, the Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr. Ola Oresanya said the training would enrich their knowledge on how the environment is kept clean in more development climes.

The workshop which also doubled as an occasion to reward some outstanding sweepers was well attended by sweepers from across Lagos State who came clad in their red, lemon and orange uniforms.

Mr. Oresanya said that plans have been put in place by the state government to reward sweepers for diligence and utmost professionalism in the discharge of their duties. It was also said that 12 sweepers were sponsored to this year’s Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca and Jerusalem by the state government.

It was however not clear when the trip to the UK will commence and how many will be the beneficiaries.
