NDLEA arrests tennis star and businessman for drug trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) yesterday said it had arrested a professional tennis player and a businessman for drug trafficking.

Indlean a statement by its Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA said the 30-year-old tennis player was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja.

The agency said the tennis player was apprehended while attempting to board a British Airways flight to London.

It said the player was going to New York where he was training for a tournament.

The statement added that the player began professional tennis career in 1996 and had represented Nigeria in some Davis Cup competitions.

According to the NDLEA, the other suspect, aged 46, was nabbed in his house at FESTAC Town in Lagos.
It said: “While the tennis player hides under the cover of a sports, the businessman presents himself as an importer of marbles and other building materials.

“Until their arrest by the NDLEA, no one would ever imagine they are into drugs.” NDLEA said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
