Buhari Lists Bane of Polity

Former Head of State, and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) yesterday identified bad politics, poor leadership, character content and systemic failure as the bane of Nigerian polity.

Buhari made the declaration in Benin City during a one-day seminar titled: “Towards a Greater Nigeria”, organized by Solomon Iyobosa Edebiri Centre for Change (SIECC).

The former Head of State who was represented by former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Benin, Prof. Patrick Igbinovia, noted that taking a look at what is happening in the country in the last 50 years, one would conclude that “we still have a long way to go”.

According to him, the only way to forge ahead is for Nigerians to imbibe behavioural change, adding that the time has come to tow the right path to make the country great.

In his remarks, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State said development of any society begins with self discipline, adding that there was no way a society can develop he infrastructure, without a re-orientation.

Oshiomhole who was represented by his Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Osagie Obayuwana declared: “The attitude of change must begin with self”

In his welcome address, chairman of SIECC, convener of the seminar, Mr. Solomon Iyobosa Edebiri, said the primary aim of the centre was to bring about a total change that is all encompassing, all qualitative and change-of-improvement in the lives of Nigerians by motivating and inspiring the individual to take up individual personal responsibility for the improvement of her immediate environment.

He also stated that the centre seeks to encourage the individual Nigerian that in the course of taking suck responsibility, should do so with utmost  integrity, transparency and accountability.

Edebiri who said SIECC profoundly believes that societal change for the better must first begin from self, added that the centre anchored the social behavior on four principles namely, Responsibility, Integrity, Transparency and Accountability (RITA).
