Thousands of Kaduna residents on Monday continued the protests against fuel subsidy removal despite the continued government intimidation and the reduction in the increase of the price to N97 from N141.
They stormed the streets as early as 7am insisting that the pump price of petrol must revert to N65.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Ballah Nasarawa, who was also at the venue of the protest urged the protesters to conduct themselves within the ambit of the law.
Addressing the protesters, Musa said the struggle for the reversal of fuel price to N65 per litre had just begun.
The former governor described the decision by Labour to call off the strike as disappointing. He said civil society groups would carry on with the protests until the government reversed the price.
Musa said, “Now, they have decided to accept N97 per litre and to suspend the strike without consulting with Csos. Now, it is unfortunate. One, Nigerians are old enough know that NLC had always adopted a wrong approach to strike. They always call on CSOs and Nigerians to support them in their strike but they have formed the habit of abandoning the strike half way.
“We in Kaduna said we would continue with the struggle here in Kaduna and would link up with others, mainly in Abuja, Lagos and Kano. After all, organised Labour is only 10 per cent of aggrieved Nigerians over fuel subsidy. The rest of us will continue.”
Also speaking at the rally, Sani accused President Goodluck Jonathan of “testing the resolve” of Nigerians to resist the anti-people policy of his administration.
Sani vowed that the protests would continue as long as the government remained “intransigent.” (Citizen reporter)
